Privacy policy

Last updated 23 October 2026

Far Coasts (farcoasts.com) is run by Siglar Development AS, Norway ("we"). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions or requests: hey@farcoasts.com.

What we collect

  • Your account, from Google when you sign in: your Google account ID, email address, name and profile picture.
  • Your game: your sailor's name, where you are in the game world and what you are doing (walking or sailing), your ships and where they lie, your time played, and when you last played.
  • Your membership, if you have one: your Stripe customer ID, your subscription's status and when it renews or ends. Your card details go to Stripe; we never see or store them.
  • Technical data: the browser you use (with your session, so you can see where you are signed in) and the usual server logs (IP address, time, the page asked for), kept for security and troubleshooting.

Why, and on what basis

  • To run your account and the game, and to remember where you left off: to perform our agreement with you (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)).
  • To take payment for a membership and keep it in step with Stripe: to perform our agreement, and to keep the accounting records the law requires (art. 6(1)(c)).
  • To keep the game safe and fair (stopping cheating and abuse, fixing faults): our legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)).

Other players see your sailor's name, your character and your ship, and where you are in the game world while you play. They never see your email or your Google profile.

Cookies and storage in your browser

We set one cookie, fc_session, which keeps you signed in (and a short-lived one while you sign in with Google). The game also keeps a copy of the game world and your settings in your browser's storage so that it starts faster. We use no advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics that follow you across sites.

Who we share it with

  • Google, when you choose to sign in with it.
  • Stripe, which handles membership payments under its own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy). Stripe may transfer data outside the EEA under the safeguards the GDPR requires.
  • We host the game on our own servers in Norway. We do not sell your data, and we share it with no one else unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Your account and game data are kept while you have an account. You can delete your account yourself on your account page (it goes at once, with your sessions, player and ships, and a membership is cancelled), or ask us and we delete it within 30 days. Payment records are kept as long as Norwegian accounting law requires (currently five years). Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.

Your rights

You may ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected, deleted or handed to you in a portable form, and object to or restrict how we use it. Write to hey@farcoasts.com. You may also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.no) or the authority where you live.

Children

Far Coasts is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data about them. If you are under the age of consent where you live, ask a parent or guardian before signing up.

Changes

If we change this policy in ways that matter, we will say so on the site before the change takes effect.
